Adoption Policy for Retired Sniffer Dogs

Punjab Police utilizes the natural scent-detection abilities of sniffer dogs for crime investigation and law enforcement. These highly trained animals serve throughout their working lives; however, once they become old or unfit for duty, they were previously subjected to euthanasia.

JFK Animal Rescue and Shelter initiated a collaboration with Punjab Police, formally requesting the Inspector General of Punjab Police to discontinue this practice. Through a structured long-term plan and official approvals, it was agreed that retired sniffer dogs would no longer be euthanized. Instead, they would be responsibly rehomed and adopted by suitable families, allowing them to live the remainder of their lives in safety and care.

This initiative has contributed to saving hundreds of service dogs from euthanasia and has promoted a more humane retirement system for working animals.
