Story Behind JFK
A Journey of Resilience and Justice
The Spark of Compassion
JFK Animal Rescue and Shelter did not begin as a planned organization; it began as a response to a silent cry for help. Our Founder, Zufishan anushay, witnessed the harrowing reality of street animals in Pakistan—suffering from extreme abuse, neglect, and a lack of basic dignity. Driven by the belief that looking away is not an option, she made a vow: to provide a voice and justice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
Justice for Kiki (The Meaning of JFK)
Kiki was our first rescued dog—playful, affectionate, and one of the happiest street dogs we had ever known. She quickly became a symbol of joy and resilience.Tragically, one morning while she was playing outside, Kiki was brutally killed during a culling operation carried out by dog culling squad. Her lifeless body was discarded into a truck filled with the bodies of other dogs—a heartbreaking and defining moment for us. Kiki’s death ignited a powerful movement for justice and became the foundation for the establishment of JFK Animal Rescue and Shelter.
Pakistan’s First Rehabilitation Sanctuary
We are more than just a shelter; we are Pakistan’s first Complete Rehabilitation Center. We realized early on that physical healing isn’t enough. Our sanctuary follows a “Fear-Free” philosophy, focusing on the psychological and emotional recovery of traumatized animals. Whether it is complex spinal surgeries or healing from severe burns, we provide a safe haven where animals can learn to trust humans again.
Pioneering Institutional Reform
The story of JFK is also a story of systemic change. We recognized that to truly save animals, we had to change the laws and the mindsets of our society. This led to our historic collaboration with the Punjab Police to establish the Police Animal Rescue Center (PARC). From rescuing abused equines to rehoming retired sniffer dogs with honor, we are working with the government to build a kinder Pakistan.
Our Mission Continues
From a single rescue to a national movement, JFK has saved thousands of lives. However, our story is far from over. With every rescue, every successful adoption, and every student we educate in our awareness programs, we are one step closer to a world where every animal is treated with the respect they deserve.
